Lady Bulldogs overcome Abbott in five sets

The Wortham volleyball team outlasted Abbott in five sets in a non-district match at Abbot on Friday. The Lady Bulldogs won the fifth set, 15-10, to claim the victory after the teams had split the first four sets.
Gatesville gashes Mexia in final non-district game for ’Cats

Gatesville quarterback Jacob Newkirk passed for three touchdowns and ran for two more as the Hornets defeated Mexia, 4314, at Blackcat Field on Friday night. The loss kept Mexia winless in four games this season. It was the final non-district tune-up for the Blackcats. They will begin District 20-3A play next Friday when they host Groesbeck in the return of the Battle of the River. It also will be Mexia’s homecoming game. The ‘Cats scored two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter against Gatesville. Steven Milus bulled into the end zone from three yards out with 6 minutes, 12 seconds remaining. The two-point run attempt failed.
