Lady Bulldogs finish off victory over Cross Roads

The Wortham volleyball team overcame a feisty Cross Roads squad to secure a four-set victory at the Wortham High School gym Tuesday night. The Lady Bulldogs won the first two sets by 25-19 and 25-13 scores. Cross Roads rebounded to notch a 25-20 victory in the third set. The visiting Bobcats did all they could to push the game to a fifth set, but Wortham prevailed in a nail-biter, 30-28, in the fourth game to clinch the win.

Wortham downs Leon 60-27

The Wortham Bulldogs defeated the Leon Cougars 60-27 in their first home game of the year. Wortham’s first home game was supposed to be last week, but rain late in the day created an unsafe field and the game was moved to Rosebud Lott. The Bulldogs fumbled the first kickoff, and the Cougars made them pay with a 12-play drive that put them up 7-0. However, it didn’t take long for Wortham to take the lead. Derek Bullard ran 51 yards for a touchdown on Wortham’s first play, and Tanner Bean ran in the conversion to put the Bulldogs up 8-7. The Cougars mounted a 6-play drive that resulted in another touchdown and a 14-8 lead with 2:40 to go in the first quarter.
