TexasA&MAgriLife Extension Service in Limestone, Falls, McLennan, Robertson, Leon, Hill and Freestone Counties are sponsoring a “Summer Beef Cattle Management” program at the Groesbeck Auction Barn in Groesbeck onAug. 30. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. The program begins at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude after lunch. Lunch will be sponsored by S&S Ag Feedstore and Buzbee Feed & Seed. There will be a sponsored breakfast and refreshments courtesy of Lone Star Ag Credit. There is a $10 fee for the program, payable at the door. We will be offering one (1) CEU (1 General credit) toward recertification of private, non-commercial and commercial applicator licenses for attending the program. Speakers for the program include: Dr. Jason Cleere – Extension State Beef Cattle Specialist; Lisa Everman – Limestone/Freestone Farm Service Agency; Dr. Barron Rector – Extension Range Specialist and Jon DeClerck, Purina Cattle Technical Consultant.

The Mexia football team will finally get to block and tackle against an opponent Thursday. After hitting each other since they put on the pads for the first time this past Saturday, the Blackcats will have their first scrimmage Thursday night when they host perennial Class 3A powerhouse Grandview at Blackcat Field. The junior varsity scrimmage will begin at 6 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
