The Mexia Blackcats soccer club lost a tough one at home Tuesday, Jan. 28 against Connally. The game was scoreless as both teams went into the penalty kick portion of sudden death. It was Connally who eventually outlasted Mexia 3-0 to decide the ballgame.
It was a challenging night for the Wortham Lady Bulldogs basketball team on Friday, Jan. 24. They were overwhelmed on the road by the Mildred Lady Eagles 60-17.
The Mexia Ladycats basketball team wasted no time imposing its will on the opposition on Friday, Jan. 24. Mexia traveled to Elkhart and notched a 70-37 victory over the Fighting Lady Elks. Mexia got off to a 14-0 run to start the game. The run was capped off by an offensive rebound and putback by forward Ja’Calinn Richardson. After the first quarter, Mexia led comfortably 21-3. The Ladycats expanded the lead in the second quarter. A three-point basket by Mexia senior center Faith Abron with less than 20 seconds to go in the period was the final field goal of the half. By intermission, the Ladycats enjoyed a 3815 advantage.
