Lady ’Dogs overrun Mart, stay unbeaten in district play

The Wortham volleyball team ripped Mart in three sets to finish the first half of District 14-2A play with an unblemished 4-0 record. The Lady Bulldogs are 2116 overall. The three-set victory came at Mart on Friday, Oct. 7. Wortham won the first game 25-13 and stormed to a 25-9 win in round two. They finished the sweep with a 25-20 decision in the third set. Riley Winstead paced the Lady Bulldogs with 10 kills. RaShay Covey and Madison Newhouse notched six kills each. Covey also had an assist and a dig. Newhouse added a dig.

Big cat battle: Mexia, Teague square off in key district tussle

Another week, another battle of one-loss teams for the Mexia Blackcats. The ‘Cats can cement their grip on third place in District 20-3A with a victory at Teague on Friday night. And with a victory, they can stay on track for their goal of winning the district championship. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
