Wortham edged out Dawson with a buzzer- beating touchdown in a 48-40 Bulldogs vs. Bulldogs rivalry showdown at Wortham on Thursday night. The thrilling comeback win sealed a second-seed slot in the playoffs for Wortham as they enter their second straight postseason run. Wortham broke the Bulldogs’ 4-1 district tie and will enter the playoffs with an 8-2 overall record.
The stars aligned for the Mexia Blackcats on the final night of the regular season and they will live to play at least one more game.
The Coolidge Lady Yellowjackets made a bit of recent history Thursday, Nov. 3, when they played in the second round of the playoffs at home against Abbott.
The Coolidge volleyball team advanced to the area round of the playoffs for the first time in more than five years with a three-set sweep over Greenville Pioneer Technical Arts Academy (PTAA) in a bi-district match at Kemp on Monday. The Ladyjackets rolled to a 2511 victory in the opening set. They used a late surge to win the second set, 25-17, and finished it off with a 25-10 win in round three. Coolidge will host Abbott at 5 p.m. Thursday in a Class A area round match. Trailing 5-3 in the opening set, Coolidge scored 10 consecutive points and, after PTAA scored a point, came back with an eight-point run to take a commanding 21-6 advantage.
