Commissioners held a public hearing for the fiscal year 2020-2021 Proposed Budget and Proposed Tax Rate. No comments or questions were made by those in attendance, so commissioners approved the annual budget and adopted the tax rate of $0.7678 per $100 valuation, which is an increase in the effective tax rate, but is a lower rate than last year.
It’s been a back-and-forth week for straight-ticket voting in Texas.
There are three contested local races for the upcoming Nov. 3 General Election, one in Mexia, one in Groesbeck and one in Wortham. All three were originally scheduled for the May 2 City and School Board elections but were rescheduled because of the COVID-19 restrictions.
Texas Central Railroad & Infrastructure, the company planning to build a high-speed rail line connecting Houston and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, has purchased 33 properties along the proposed route in Limestone, Freestone and Navarro counties – totaling $3,374,718 in appraised value – since January of last year.
