Coolidge residents continued their annual Mesquite Tree Festival tradition on Saturday, beginning with the Mr. and Miss Mesquite Tree Pageant at the Coolidge Community Center, followed by treats and fun at booths in the grassy lot downtown, a parade and later a street dance.
The severe weather sirens went off in Mexia Sunday afternoon, May 9, but City Manager Eric Garretty said it was a false alarm. Coincidentally, however, very strong winds were reported south of Mexia and at Lake Mexia, leaving behind snapped trunks and branches and a loss of power.
Wortham High School senior Ben Havens has made high marks as he’s gone through the school and will be graduating later this month, but when considering his family, his achievement is not so unusual.
