AUSTIN – Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday declared the reform of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) an emergency item this legislative session. In declaring this item an emergency, the Governor is calling on the legislature to investigate ERCOT and ensure Texans never again experience power outages on the scale they have seen over the past several days.
The most unrelenting winter weather pattern in decades unleashed brutally unseasonable cold and record snowfall deep into Texas, sparked harrowing scenes on roadways across the middle of the country and left millions of customers without power over the weekend. The coast-to-coast weather system caused particular chaos across Texas, where rolling blackouts left people in the dark and without electricity amid teeth-chattering temperatures.
The latest cumulative figures for people who tested positive for COVID-19 virus and a cumulative count of those who have died, was shown Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 8 a.m., from Johns Hopkins University and Medicine website (coronavirus.jhu. edu/map.html) to be:
