The post office at Thurber closed permanently on Nov. 30, 1936, leaving the once thriving mining town with hardly a pulse and neighboring Mingus on the critical list.

Birthday before Thanksgiving

MISD, residents donate about 40,000 pounds of food
The residents of Mexia and the students who attend schools in Mexia ISD should be exceedingly proud of themselves, as somewhere in the neighborhood of 40,000 pounds of food were donated to the Caritas of Mexia Food Pantry which was a part of the Food for Families food drive throughout Central Texas last Friday.
