After standing-room-only services in a large local church on Jun. 5, 1890, Fort Worth’s 23,000 residents paid silent tribute to the town’s first true hero by lining the route to the cemetery or walking behind the casket to the grave where Alfred S. Hayne was laid to rest.
The annual celebration of Juneteenth began a week early with the Mr. & Miss Juneteenth Pageant at the Mexia Civic Center on Saturday, June 10.
This week at Mexia LTC we started with bowling on Monday morning. Residents played bingo that afternoon. Residents enjoyed Bible group with Bob Kersten on Tuesday morning. Residents enjoyed a virtual vacation with Sindra from Accent Care on Tuesday afternoon.
After missing the 2021 reunion because of COVID-19, the Dunbar Douglass Alumni Association is back home this year, celebrating with teachers, classmates, family and friends.
