The Mexia Garden Club has selected Cheri Perkins and Simon Salazar’s home at 820 N. Kaufman St. as Yard of the Month for October. Their cozy front yard features repurposed and recycled bits that create a charming atmosphere. Cheri noted that Simon is a “junker” that scouts garage sales to find pieces to add to the garden. The front of their home is shaded by a majestic pecan tree, which provides shade to a delightful front yard sitting area. Curated collections of crosses, bells, angels and other fanciful relics adorn the front porch entry and a neighboring bird bath. A wire spool repurposed into a sturdy bench provides porch seating, while Simon’s repurposed work boots anchor the porch.
