There was sports news galore in the first two and a half months of 2020. And though sports activities were severely curtailed when schools were shut down in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were still a few sports stories that emerged during the shutdown. Here is a review of some of those stories:
Precious Daily’s last two basketball seasons have been derailed by injuries. This year she has shaken the injury bug and is one of the leaders on a Ladycat team that won seven of their first nine games and is ranked in the top-25 in the state Class 4A poll.
When Mexia girls’ basketball coach Carlos Daniels looks at Gwendolyn Johnson, he sees the spitting image of her older sister, Ashley Johnson.
The Coolidge football team earned five first-team selections and one superlative in District 12-1A, Division I this season.
Three Wortham football players earned first team All-District 10-2A, Division II honors.
