‘Buffalo Soldiers and Officers of the Ninth Cavalry’ a good read
How does a nation deal with racial problems? The United States tried a bold new approach in 1866 when the government formed the 9th Cavalry of black men. Known as Buffalo Soldiers, as named by the Indians “because, like the buffalo, they were wooly.” Their story is a masterfully told story, “Buffalo Soldiers and Officers of the Ninth Cavalry, 1867-1898,” researched and written by Charles L. Kenner and published by the University of Oklahoma Press.
