Volunteers with an organization called Toys for Tots are doing everything they can to ensure Mexia-area children whose families are struggling financially will have a gift, hopefully several gifts, to open at Christmas.
Rose and Bill Groth show some of the 415 shoebox gifts they had received from generous Limestone County residents for children in poor countries by Thursday afternoon, Nov. 19. They will continue to collect the gifts this weekend: Friday-Saturday, Nov. 20-21, 9 a.m.-noon; Sunday, Nov. 22, 2-5 p.m.; Monday morning 8-10 a.m. The truck is leaving the church at 10 sharp, so the gifts must be there before that time. Mexia City Council member Erica Navarro was sworn into office at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, having won re-election in the Nov. 3 General Election. City Attorney Charles Buenger administered the oath of office to Navarro.
