In the state race most pertinent to Bi-Stone Area voters, former United States Congressman Pete Sessions is former no more, as the Republican candidate bested Democratic candidate Rick Kennedy and Libertarian candidate Ted Brown to win the 17th Congressional District seat Tuesday night.
With an estimated 77% of the votes counted, Cornyn was leading Hegar by 8 percentage points, 52.6% to 45%. Decision Desk declared Cornyn the winner earlier in the night when he was up by a point.
President Donald Trump narrowly carried Texas on Tuesday as national results continue to show him and former Vice President Joe Biden in a neck-and-neck race.
The Mexia Garden Club members traveled to Georgetown for a District V Garden Club Fall Conference. Those attending are Charlotte Weiss, District V Director from McGregor, Mary Demny, Patty Manley, Mexia President, Sarah McReynolds in costume, Gayle Beene and Carol Matthews. The theme of the event was “Something to Crow About.” The speaker was Nathan Fuchs from Ideal Poultry Farms in Cameron. The group was also treated to a presentation by Carol Smith about hydroponic gardening with Mason jars. Each attendee was able to make their own Mason jar garden to take home.
