Down a dusty dirt road, atop a hill in Donie, Leon, Freestone and Limestone County residents gathered March 2 in front of rows of newly sprouted produce to cut the ceremonial ribbon designating the opening of the NRG Dewey Prairie Garden. NRG Energy partnered with Texan by Nature to build the 10-acre garden, which is expected to yield up to 10,000 pounds of fresh produce per year for the community in and around Jewett.
Glenda O’Neal, Limestone Medical Center board member, said late board member Joe Phillips was instrumental in bringing a dialysis center to Groesbeck. Phillips initiated communications with the necessary folks to begin the process, O’Neal said.
