The eleventh chapter of Hebrews is called, “The Hall of Faith,” and with good reason. The chapter begins with a definition of faith, “To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see.” Notice that it says, “to be sure” and “not to wonder at”. Then it says, “to be certain”, and “not to guess”. The very next verse begins to give an example of the faith of the Old Testament saints. It says, “It was by their faith that the people of ancient times won God’s approval.” And then it describes these people of faith as they trusted God to lead them. The chapter speaks of Abel, of Enoch, of Noah, of Abraham and Sarah, and of Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, and Moses. Each one of these people demonstrated their faith by their actions, what they did as they trusted God to lead them. And then in the sixth verse it says, “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, that is, God, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”
