Emergency declaration means higher punishment for crimes

Those who are convicted of many types of crimes that took place in Texas since Gov. Abbot declared a disaster will be subject to a higher degree of punishment, according to the Texas Penal Code. Sheriff Dennis Wilson, however, says he has not seen an increase, or decrease, in crime since the closure and cancellation of activities because of attempts to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

No games, no practices, no athletics for 2 weeks

Last week, it was announced that all University Interscholastic League events, including athletic contests, would be suspended for two weeks. On Monday, the UIL sent a communication to coaches telling them that no organized team practices would be allowed for two weeks.
