Former members of Cindy Walker’s children’s choir gave a performance Saturday of hymns Walker wrote for them when she led the children’s choir at First Presbyterian Church in the 1970s.

The Mexia Garden Club has selected Beth Weaver’s home at 1116 Tamarisk Drive as Yard of the Month for July. The Weaver home is shaded by a massive burr oak and mature pecan trees. Crepe myrtles frame the front entry. Beth noted that when she purchased the home in 2004, the front flowerbed was overgrown with English ivy. She began the painstaking process of removing the dense ivy, and and has planted multi-layered beds of loropetalum, yaupon hollies, dwarf crepe myrtles, nandina, lavender, cannas, and liriope. Beth says the different colors and textures in her garden make her happy. She believes that gardening makes a home warm and inviting, noting,“I love seeing butterflies with my granddaughter.”
