If the first half of Mexia’s regional quarterfinals boys soccer match against Royal was any indication, the contest was going to be a shootout.
Two of Mexia’s speedy strikers staked their team to a two-goal lead and the Blackcats went on to defeat La Grange, 3-1, in a Class 4A area soccer playoff match in Bryan on Tuesday night.
The Mexia boys track team won a relay and had numerous place winners at the Lorena Leopards Track Meet on Thursday.
Mexia was within a run of Waco La Vega, but couldn’t solve the Pirates’ closer in the final two innings and lost a close 4-3 game in their District 18-4A opener at Blackcat Field on Friday night.
