Hints from Heloise
Dear Heloise: Just wanted to tell Bob, who wrote a hint about catching cold water in the shower, to be aware that 1-3 gallons of water is considered wasteful, especially in Southern California. Please consider finding a recirculation pump for under your sink that is far away from the water heater or one that gets installed on top of the water heater. It should save you a lot of water and the hassle of lugging buckets. -- Falcon Frank, Ventura, California Hints from Heloise
The Middle Ages
I keep a file folder near my desk that holds newspaper and magazine clippings. Some days I read about things that happened last year. Sometimes I read about inventions from 1975, Yesterday I read about the Middle Ages (not mine, but the world’s). Those folks suffered nearly 1,000 years…and those were the rich ones.
Don’t give up; you can overcome temptation
The Easter Season is upon us. For the Christian this means the celebration of the Resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ, from the grave. You see, Satan thought he had won the war. He thought he had defeated God and all creation, especially God’s top creation, mankind, that is, you and me. He thought he could now do whatever he wanted to do, and no one, and I mean “No One” was going to stand in his way of total control! But he was only fooling himself, because three days later, three days after Jesus had been nailed to the cross and buried in a borrowed tomb (borrowed because He really wouldn’t be needing it for long), He arose from the grave and broke the Devil’s back! Satan thought he had won the victory, but he hadn’t. The writer of Hebrews tells us in the fourth chapter, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our hour of need.”
HOW TO STORE FOOD DURING OUTAGES
Dear Readers: With climate change has come some very unpredictable weather, which has caused many of you to ask how long food can last in the refrigerator or freezer. It appears that weather-related outages have increased significantly.
