ADDITIONAL GARBAGE DISPOSAL NO-NOS
Dear Heloise: I thoroughly enjoy reading your column in The Times of Northwest Indiana. Today Carrie P. asked about tips for the use and care of a garbage disposal, as she had never had one. As someone who’s had one most of their (long!) life, I wanted to add to your advice.

Twenty-nine new laws set to take effect in January
More than 20 new state laws went into effect as Texans rang in the New Year, with another half-dozen to go on the books on Jan. 18, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. Those laws include a ban on transgender athletes competing on sports teams that reflect their gender identity, and penalties for illegally restraining dogs.
Go-o-o-olly ... Shazam ... shame, shame shame
An institution few people think about but is the second most powerful in the world right next to the White House, is the United States Federal Reserve Bank. It has the power to regulate the amount of money, that is dollar dominated, that circulates around the world. Right now, it is creating money like a fire hydrant on full blast and inflation is heating up with unlimited money chasing limited choices for its use. The primary result is rapidly rising asset prices such as real estate and the stock market. This is wonderful for people, primarily those fairly well off, who already owned those type investments.
