Editor’s note: The following is a speech presented by local retired teacher Renee Turner during a Black History event sponsored by the Limestone County Retired Teacher’s Association.
At a family reunion, I went outside to play catch with a cousin.
By the time their eighth child arrived on Feb.11, 1889, the Hunts were running out of names as well as room. The couple called the boy Haroldson Lafayette Jr., never dreaming he would prefer to go by his initials and someday would be the richest man in America.
Early voting in the March 1 primary begins on Feb. 14 and runs through Feb. 25. The last day to apply for a ballot by mail is Feb. 18.
A special “thanks” for the young men with the City Of Mexia Sewer Department. We had a problem with the sewer on Red River Street, and it was resolved in less than an hour. They were very professional and efficient. For sure they are an asset to our community.
