Thomas (T.G.) Temples Jr.

Thomas (T.G.) Temples Jr. passed from this earth on Aug. 26, 2022, in Round Rock. His life began on Feb.28, 1931, in the small town of Maple Springs.

Of his many accomplishments, his marriage to his beloved wife, Jo Ann Cox Temples, for 58 years, until her passing in 2011, stands out as most worthy of note. They were blessed with two daughters, Donna Roberson with spouse Steve of Belen, NM, and Tonna Hamrick with spouse Ronald of Round Rock. T.G. was also quite proud of his three grandchildren, Joel Hamrick of Austin, with spouse Jackie, Stephenie Roberson of Belen, NM, with Adrian Salas, and Rebecca Ratcliff of Brenham, with spouse Patrick. Five great-grandchildren also added much joy to his later years where he could be expected to always show up in their lives with a warm smile and a shirt pocket full of candy. His great-grandchildren are Colt Salas, Zaida and Elton Hamrick and Elliott and Amelia Jo Ratcliff.

T.G. was a veteran of the United States Navy and honorably served aboard the USS Maddox during the Korean War. His professional life began in Mt. Pleasant, but took him to many other towns across the state while employed with the Texas Employment Commission where he retired from in 1986.

On Friday nights it was also not uncommon to find TG refereeing high school football games or telling stories about those times and the small towns he got to visit along the way. Upon retirement, T.G. and his wife Jo Ann built a new home in Mexia, where Jo Ann’s parents Jesse and Eunice Cox lived as well. While in Mexia, T.G. and Jo Ann attended the First Methodist Church and filled their spare time with the Stompers Square Dance Club and RV camping trips with friends. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Blair Stubbs Funeral Home at 605 S. McKinney in Mexia. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at Mexia City Cemetery in Mexia.
