Margaret Emma Gallegly Bogue

Funeral services for Margaret Emma Gallegly Bogue, 97, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at First Baptist Church in Teague. Brother Scott Matthews officiated.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Algoma Cemetery in Marshall.

There will be no visitation.

Margaret Emma Gallegly Bogue of Teague passed away Sept. 29, 2023, of natural causes.

Margaret was born on Sept. 21, 1926, to Lionel Grady and Rosie Pearl Gallegly of Anniston Ala. After graduating from John Tyler High School in Tyler she went on to study History at East Texas Baptist College in Marshall where she attained a BA and MA Degree in History.

Upon graduation, she taught History and Government at Thorndale High School, Jefferson High School, Mexia High School, and finished her 29-year teaching career at Teague High School.

In 1951, Margaret met her future husband Travis at East Texas Baptist College. They were married in 1959 and had three daughters, Molly Bogue and Ray Vonder Haar of Bar Harbor, Maine, Amy Adams of Katy, and Jennifer and Craig Lance of Gordonville. They were also blessed with seven grandchildren, Lauran DeForke, Rachel Burruss, Emily Rodriguez, Rhiannon VonderHaar, Carson Lance, Nathan VonderHaar, and Kaelyn Lance. They have eight great-grandchildren, Michael, Lucas, Carter, and Emma Deforke; Barrett and Braylee Burruss; Liam and Ava Rodriguez.

Margaret was a devoted wife and mother along with being a dedicated career educator and loyal church member at Teague First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also very talented in art and music. She was an avid reader who wrote a column for the Teague Chronicle called “Greetings from the Teague Library.” In this report she highlighted the events of the town and library and reviewed books she had read.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Travis Bogue of Teague; three daughters, two sonsin- law; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Joyce Wilson of Fort Worth, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers and sisters.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Teague Public Library, 402 Main St., Teague, TX 75860.
