LEROY REED
Mr. Leroy Reed was born Sept. 14, 1952. He was the fourth of 11 children born to Isom and Vivian Morgan Reed in the Sandy Community in Limestone County. Leroy passed away on Friday, Oct. 9, 2020, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia.
Leroy accepted Christ and joined Union Memorial United Methodist Church in Sandy at an early age. He was raised in the church.
Leroy attended Echols School, Dunbar/Douglass schools, and graduated from Mexia High School in May 1971. Leroy attended Texas State Technical College in Waco and later moved to Dallas.
Leroy married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Smith Reed, on Oct. 14, 1972. Two boys were born to this union: Brandon Reed and Darius Reed. Leroy was also the dad of Beverlin O’Neice Smith Spain, who was two years old when Leroy married her mother. In addition, Leroy was the father of Ashley Carson, who resides in Philadelphia, Penn.
Leroy was a very serious and intelligent man of character. He believed in doing the right thing. He was born with a hereditary vision problem that progressively robbed him of his sight. As a young adult, he was legally blind. He worked various jobs in Dallas including the Dallas Independent School District and Hilton Hotels.
Leroy lived his life his way. He had a good heart and was a good listener. He gave good advice to many. He carried his mother the ‘last mile of the way’ when she still needed dialysis but had already used her 100 Medicare reserve days. The doctors suggested that she discontinue dialysis and be sent to a nursing home to die. Leroy helped his sister Evelyn by lifting his mother into the van for transport to and from dialysis three times a week. He loved his family, football and the Dallas Cowboys.
Leroy was preceded in death by his son Darius in August 1998, his parents in 2004 and 2005; his sisters Cathy in 1962 and Quindo Francine Mathews in 2015; his brothers Walter Ray Reed in 2002, Isaac Reed in 2014, Isom Reed Jr. in 2015, and Larry Reed in 2019.

Worth, and Ashley Carson, of Philadelphia, Penn.; three brothers: Robert Reed (Monica), Elmer Kenneth Reed (Linda), and Charlie Reed; four sisters: Evelyn Reed, Sharon Reed Freeman (Willie), Vivian Eileen Reed Kirven (Clarence), and Tammy Reed; nine grandsons: Isaiah, Darius, Jordan, Brandon Jr., Jaylon, Jackson, Orian, Jacob and Gage; one uncle, Robert Lewis Reed; one aunt, Lela Neomi Hemphill Reed; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
