Ms. Brown passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020, at Skilled Care of Mexia.
CeLindia Lee Webb was born July 26, 1929, in Forest Glade, weighing less than 3 pounds. She was descended from one of the first 13 families of Limestone County. She grew up and spent many days playing among family and friends at the Reunion Grounds, which included summer days swimming at the Navasota River dam. She had fond memories of these times as well as evenings dancing under the Reunion Grounds gazebo and dances at Springfield where youth from surrounding communities would gather. CeLindia attended Mexia High School where she was a yell leader and sorority member. She graduated with the class of 1948. After graduation she moved to Teague and worked for the Department of Human Resources. This is where she caught the eye of Tim Brown. Once he caught her attention they began a relationship that led to 51 years of marriage. Three children came from this union. CeLindia worked to make her house a home. She and her family were members of First Baptist Church in Teague where she volunteered to help in the children’s department for many years. Later in life she became a member of the Jonathan Hardin Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Tim and CeLindia enjoyed traveling with their closest friends. They pulled their camper many a mile, often with grandchildren in tow. Once Tim retired they volunteered their time with Campers on Mission. CeLindia and Tim were lovingly devoted to one another until Tim passed away in 2002. CeLindia has since welcomed two great-granddaughters. She has been known as Grangranny by many, because of her willingness to welcome friends of her grandchildren into her home throughout the years.
CeLindia is survived by daughter, Nancy Brown McSwane and husband Marshall of Freestone; son, David Ray Brown and wife Leslie of Teague; granddaughters, Vicky McSwane of Dallas, Marsha McSwane Black and husband Martin of the Burleson Hill Community, and Georgiana McSwane of Alpine; great-granddaughters, Emery and Parker Black; special niece Marla Brown Hall and cousin Carol Owens Hassell; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; as well as “Winston,” who is well cared for in his retirement years by David and Leslie.
Ms. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Tim E. Brown; son, Stephen Lynn Brown; mother, Aline Petty; father, Alvin C. Webb; stepfather, Ernest E. Ridenour; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie James Taylor.
The family would like to thank the staff of Skilled Care of Mexia and Reliant at Home Hospice.
