MARY KATHLEEN FLOWERS

LOWERS

Mary Kathleen Flowers will be celebrating her 97th birthday with her heavenly Father and family members that have gone before her.

She passed away on April 12, 2025, five days before her birthday. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 17, in the Mexia Cemetery with the Reverend Marcus Sheffield officiating. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews.

Kathleen was born on April 17, 1928, in Currie in Navarro County to Jetty Dire and Lula Mae Wilson Terry. She attended school in both Wortham and Mexia. Kathleen married her lifelong partner, Jesse Riley “JR” Flowers on Sept. 3, 1946, and they were blessed with 64 wonderful years together prior to his death in 2010.

Kathleen had an outgoing personality, very friendly, and always greeted everyone with her beautiful smile. She was a longtime active member of the First United Methodist Church in Mexia. She always helped with the Lord’s Acre, fundraisers, and wherever there was a need. Kathleen worked for White & Gillespie’s Drug Store, Womack Insurance, Dr. Edgar’s office, and J. C. Penny’s as a seamstress.

Kathleen loved spending time with family, especially during the holidays, reading, cooking, and working in the yard. She liked to stay busy and be among people.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jetty Terry; mother, Lula Mae Lide; husband, Jesse Riley Flowers; and brother, J. D. Terry.

Kathleen leaves behind a great extended family that dearly loved her.
