Blackcats take second in district track meet
The Mexia Blackcats took second place with 131 points in the district track meet in Fairfield last Wednesday, April 2, behind Elkhart with 152 points. The Blackcats defeated Fairfield (96), Westwood (96), Teague (74), Groesbeck (55), and Buffalo (13).
In the top athletes competition, Kyran Bedford took seventh with 18 points and Brice Moore grabbed eighth with 17 points.
Jeremias Rodriguez placed fifth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.559.
In the 200m dash, Moore garnered second place with a time of 23.133 and Jeremiah Middleton grabbed third with a time of 23.186.
Zhayden Jackson and Noah Reagler placed second and third respectively in the 400m dash with times of 53.843 and 54.008.
In the 800m run, Anthony Schaff took second with a time of 2:12.260 and Vershawn Troup garnered third with a time of 2:12.790.
Bedford won the gold in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.816. Kendon Jackson took fifth with a time of 17.437 and Kyren Dunn sixth with a time of 17.527.
In the 300m hurdles, Bedford ran a 46.265 for a fourth place finish. Chris Hernandez placed sixth with a time of 47.183.
Jacquez Cooper, Moore, Rodriguez, and Kadyn Molina won the gold in the 4x100m relay with a time of 42.943.
In the 4x200m relay, Middleton, Rodriguez, Moore, and Cooper grabbed second place with a time of 1:30.491.
Schaff, Reagler, Jackson, and Middleton took a second place finish in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:36.363.
Tralan Brooks grabbed the silver medal in the long jump contest with a distance of 22’ 0¼”. Bedford took fourth place with a jump of 20’ 10¼”. Jatay Bluitt finished sixth with a jump of 20’ 3”.
In the triple jump competition, Brooks finished fifth with a jump of 42’ 3”.
Kendon Jackson placed fifth in the high jump contest with a jump of 5’ 4”.
The top four athletes in each event advanced to the Area Track Meet, which was held on Wednesday, April 9, in Fairfield. Competing at the Area Track Meet with District 20 was District 19 consisting of Cameron Yoe, Lexington, Little River Academy, Rockdale, Franklin, Rogers, and Thrall.
