David Ray Dolen
David Ray Dolen, of Mexia, passed away Feb. 22, 2024, in Waco, at the age of 83. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 25, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Visitation with the family was prior to the service and began at 2 p.m. A Masonic graveside service was held at the Seal Round Prairie Cemetery. Asher Tyner, Mason Tyner, David Tyner, Bradley Tyner, Gary Cooper and Douglass Cooper served as pallbearers.
David was born Oct. 27, 1940, in Cypress to Johnnie Wesley and Ivy Evelyn Coats Dolen. He lived in the Mexia area most of his life. On Sept. 2, 1958, David married Peggy Janelle Roberts and they were blessed with four children. He was a meat inspector for the State of Texas for 28 years prior to retirement.
David had an outgoing personality, never met a stranger, and was always willing to help anyone in any way. He loved the Lord, his family and many friends. His faith carried him through many trying times throughout his life. David was a member of First Baptist Church in Mexia.
Some of the many things David enjoyed were taking care of his pet mules, trail-riding, hunting, fishing, shooting guns, and just spending time in the country. However, he enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his four children, David Wayne Dolen, Janet Tyner, Gene Ray Dolen, and Jon David Dolen.
David is survived by his wife of 65 years, Peggy; grandchildren, David Tyner, Bradley Tyner, Elspeth and Gwyneth Dolen; and great-grandchildren, Mason, Bailey, Cooper, Asher and Erin Tyner.
