Calla Sue Lemon

Calla Sue Lemon was born on May 27, 1938, to James and Lola Collins in Broken Arrow, Okla. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Jerry Lee Collins and Jimmy Don Collins.

She is survived by her husband, Evan Lemon of Waxahachie; daughter, Deana Lide and husband Bobby of Waxahachie; and daughter, Becky Meyer of Conroe; grandchildren, Nikki and husband Mike Terry, Jared Lide, Dustin and Leah Meyer, Jennifer Meyer, and Dylan Meyer; and great-grandson, Nicholas Terry.

Sue passed away April 30, 2023. She went straight from the arms of her loving husband, daughters, and family, to the loving arms of Jesus and her loved ones waiting on her.

Sue attended school in Broken Arrow where she made lifelong friendships. On Aug. 26, 1956, Sue married Evan Lemon. They moved to La Porte where they began building their life together. Her daughter, Deana, was born in 1957 and daughter, Becky, was born in 1960. Sue spent her time in La Porte raising her daughters and being the best mom she could be. She also became a great homemaker, and her home was open all of the time to friends, family and strangers. If you needed a warm meal and a place to stay, her home was the place to go. Sue and Evan were also active members of the Church of Christ in La Porte. They worked together to lead others to Christ and were good examples of what Christians should be.

Sue and Evan moved to Mexia in 1980 to be closer to their family and their firstborn granddaughter. Sue spent her days in Mexia being a wonderful Granny to her grandchildren and continued to be a fantastic homemaker. When you went in to visit, you could always find a homemade pie or some type of dessert on her counter. Her nails were always painted, and her hair tightly curled. She was always ready for what the day would bring. Again, Sue and Evan continued to be active members of the Church of Christ, this time in Shiloh. And again, their home was always open for fun things like gospel singings, games of Rook, 42, and wiener roasts by their creek.

Sue also opened a café called the Lemon Tree with her best friend, Marie Lide. People would flock to the café for lunch for their homemade cooking and Sue’s pies. Those two ladies made quite the pair!

Sue lived a good life, full of love and fun! She was exactly what God intended for a Christian woman to be. A wife that stood by her husband in good times and bad, a mother that took great care of her daughters and taught them to be Christian women, a loving grandmother to her grandchildren, and a friend to anyone in need. She loved her family, and they loved her. Sue will be missed by everyone that loved her and while we will grieve for her in the days and times ahead, we are rejoicing that she is in Heaven now!

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 2, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Bobby Lide officiating. Visitation with the family was held prior to the service at 1 p.m. Interment was in the Cotton Gin Cemetery. Jared Lide, Dustin Meyer, Mike Terry, Charles Raschke, and Dylan Meyer served as pallbearers.
