Norma Jean Vincent

A woman dedicated to her family and caring for others, Norma Jean Vincent, passed away Jan. 6, 2023, at 79.
Norma was born May 19, 1943, in Mexia to Minnie Lou and Vernon John Williams. Growing up with her sister, Verna Jo Hammer, she was raised in the country in Personville, where she had a lot of pets. She attended school in Mexia and graduated in 1962.
Shortly after graduation, Norma married Hollis Wayne Daniel Sr.
They had two sons, Hollis Wayne Daniel Jr. and Vernon Wesley Daniel. Her sons were the loves of her life. Norma later married Roy N. Vincent Sr.
In 1973, Norma decided to continue her education, attending Austin Community College to receive her LVN license. She worked at state schools in Austin, Travis and Mexia and several nursing homes. She trained at Brackenridge Hospital to become an EMT and then worked as a volunteer firefighter for Mexia Fire Department. Over the years, she also worked for several home health companies and the Texas Department of Health. After retiring from nursing in 2001, she worked for hospice and Cen-Tex in Mexia. Even after retiring, she kept busy helping others. She was a foster grandparent at McBay Elementary and worked with children at Gibbs Memorial library, reading and doing crafts. Norma loved this.
When she was not busy working, Norma enjoyed rocks. She would pick up stones with peculiar shapes and tumble them. She also was very interested in history, courthouses and state parks in Texas. She enjoyed reading western paperbacks. Norma especially loved spending time with her family. She made terrific memories on her Alaskan cruise and many camping trips with her grandchildren. She loved Chinese food.
Outspoken and feisty, Norma was also a very caring woman. She attended Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Mexia for more than 30 years and Christ Gospel Fellowship Church in Mexia. Her love for Jesus Christ was powerful, and she had a gazillion pieces of Christian literature to prove it. She received her ministry license in 2012 but was never a pastor.
Norma was preceded in death by her sons’ dad, Hollis Wayne Daniel Sr.; her husband, Roy Nathaniel Vincent Sr.; her grandson, Jayson W. Webster; and her nephew, Kenneth A. Hammer.
She leaves behind her sons, Vernon Wesley Daniel and wife Judi, Hollis Wayne Daniel Jr., and fiancé Christi Strahan, both of Oakwood; her grandchildren, Kody Wayne Daniel, Kandis Jean Posey and her husband Steven Posey, and Christina Stewart and her husband Leonard Stewart; her great-grandchildren, Kody, Kassidy, Kullen, and Jayson Daniel, Beau, Newton and Merida Posey, and Lacey, Joshua and Brooke Stewart; sister, Verna Jo Hammer and husband Lynn A. Hammer; nieces and nephews, Robert Hammer, Shannon Lynn Hammer, and Angela Hammer; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and her special friends, Karen Husley, Clerice Sterling Fargo and Sue Carrier.
Memorial services to honor Norma’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Corley-Porter Funeral Home in Mexia.
