Barbara Jean Sewell

Barbara Jean Sewell, of Itasca, entered her heavenly home Nov. 4, 2022, at the age of 89. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, at Woodbury Baptist Church in Woodbury, with the Rev. Truitt Cockrell and Wade Yarbro officiating. Interment will follow in the “New” Woodbury Cemetery. Barbara was born March 14, 1933, in Salado, to Houston and Lucye Pamela (Quesenberry) Berry. She grew up and attended Salado schools, graduating from Salado High School where she played basketball and was honored with the State Golden Girl Award. Barbara received her Bachelor of Art in Music from Mary Hardin Baylor. She retired after 26 years of service in the Itasca ISD, where she served as a music teacher, band director and an elementary school teacher.

Barbara married her lifelong partner, the Rev. Billy Guy Sewell on Oct. 19, 1956, in Belton. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, in addition to her working career and being a dedicated, supportive preacher’s wife.

Barbara, also, played the piano for Woodbury Baptist Church for 51 years. Her life revolved around serving the Lord and taking care of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Houston and Lucye Berry; her husband, the Rev. Billy Sewell; grandson, Ethan Sewell; sister, Jo Ann Berry Stowell; and brother, Monte Derwood “Sonny” Berry.

Barbara is survived by her three sons; Douglas Guy Sewell and wife Karen of Centreville, Md., Stanley Dean Sewell and wife Lindy of Mexia, and Gregory Lynn Sewell and wife Shanah of Itasca; grandchildren, Nichole La-Greca, Katie Sewell, Cameron Sewell, Hanah Sewell, Mason Sewell, Gavin Sewell and Chloe Sewell; great-grandsons, Ethan Coleman and Julian LaGrecia; great-granddaughters, Chynna Stueber, Maebry White and Cate Totzke; and sister, Marla Houston Berry Sanders and husband Jim of Blanco.
