JoNell Hill Trumble

JoNell Hill Trumble, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away On Sept. 14, at the age of 87 in Austin. JoNell was born to Thomas and Gladys McNatt on July 2, 1935. She was one of three children raised in Mexia. She had two brothers, Thomas McNatt and Jack McNatt. She attended Mexia High School and North Texas State College. She married Larry Hill and had three children, Steve, Debbie and Joanna. Larry died in an accident in 1977. JoNell later married her dear love, Eugene Trumble in December 1986.

JoNell worked as a teacher at Mexia Independent School District in 1975, where she was loved and respected. She also made many lifelong friendships there. JoNell was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Mexia, where she served on numerous committees. She was an active member of Retired Teachers of Texas, where she served in various capacities. JoNell had a special love for the game of bridge and even more love for those who played with her.

JoNell was first and foremost a wonderful loving mother to her children and grandchildren. She made every holiday a magical experience. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, where every room and area of the house was decorated. She always opened her home to everyone with lots of food and celebration.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas and Jack; her husbands, Larry Hill and Gene Trumble; and her precious grandson, Scott.

She is survived by her son, Steve Hill and wife Jill and grandson Tanner of Arlington; daughter, Debbie Walker and husband Nigel of Austin and granddaughter Michelle Walker of Dallas; daughter, Joanna Willard and husband Wesley of Austin and grandson Jacob Willard and wife Morgan of Denver, Colo., and granddaughter Hannah Willard of Oshkosh, Wis. And stepdaughters, Sandi Trumble Ray and husband Mike of Arlington, and Tarie Trumble Johnson of Lewisville.

Services will be at First Baptist Church Mexia on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m., with visitation at 12:30 p.m. Graveside service will be immediately after the church service.

Remembrances of JoNell in memorial contributions can be donated to scholarships for Mexia students to the Mexia Woman’s Friday Club, P.O. Box 534, Mexia, Texas 76667, or to First Baptist Mexia, 500 East Carthage Street, Mexia, TX 76667.
