Mexia Police Department makes two arrests in altercation
Mexia News Staff Report
Mexia police have arrested both men involved in an altercation that took place Wednesday, beginning at a convenience store in the 400 block of East Tyler.
Sergio Santoyo Jr., 20, of Mexia, was arrested and charged with "Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon" and "Unlawfully Carrying a Firearm on a Premises Which Serves Alcohol”; and Myron Cal Phillips Jr., 20, also of Mexia, was charged with "Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.” Both suspects were transported to the Limestone County Jail.
The altercation happened on Jan. 13 at about 9:30 a.m. and began as a verbal disagreement in the parking lot. When one man’s vehicle hit the other vehicle, the man whose car had been struck allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the first man’s vehicle.
Police believe a chase up Tyler ensued that ended eight blocks later, in the 400 block of West Tyler, when both cars left the roadway, hitting a car in the driveway of a residence and toppling a power pole, leaving the home without electricity.
Police identified both men at the time but did not release their names or file charges until the preliminary investigation was complete.
