Sudie was born Nov. 25, 1931, in Point Enterprise, to Erie and Mary Ellen (Speights) Lightsey. After graduating from Mexia High School, she continued her education at Sam Houston University, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Language Arts and Social Science. Sudie was a dedicated teacher for 39 years. She taught for 18 years for Fairfield ISD and retired from Mexia ISD after 21 years.

Sudie is survived by her four children and families, Erie Winkler and wife Wanda, and granddaughter Marilyn Carlton and husband Clayton – and their children, Haley, Amber and Lacy Carlton; grandsons Chris Winkler and wife Caitlin Winkler – and their child, Trace; Davy Winkler and wife Candace, and granddaughter, Madison and husband Alexander Shcheglova, and grandson Logan; Daniel Winkler and wife Amanda, and granddaughter Casey Willis and husband Laramie – and their children, Weston and Colt Willis; grandson Army PVT Nathan Winkler; and Susan Winkler and grandson Josh Winkler; nieces Mary Lightsey and husband Stephen King – and their child, Austin, and Lisa Hadden and husband Arthur – and their children, Blake and Alyssa Hadden.
