SUE RIDDLE

Sue Riddle, 86, of Mexia, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 29, 2020. For over 50 years, Sue looked forward to this joyous day when she would meet Him face to face, and her singular focus was getting others to choose to follow Him, too.

Born Nita Sue Drummond on Jan. 25, 1934, to Daniel Calvin Drummond and Tennie Juanita Reed Drummond, Sue’s earliest memory is in the cotton fields outside Rockdale, being pulled along on the sack as her mother went up and down the rows picking cotton.

George Riddle grew up 12 miles down the road, and he and Sue met as freshmen in their country school. Sue graduated summa cum laude from The University of Texas, and she and George were married on Jan. 22, 1954, as soon as George finished serving in the U.S. Navy. Sue was a talented artist with a career in fashion illustration, drawing and painting and writing creative ad copy for high fashion retailers of women’s clothing in Houston.

Sue and George had two daughters, Rebecca Ann and Rachel Ellen, and found the Lord after a desperate search for answers after 4-year-old Rachel was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Sue was invited to a home Bible study by a coworker and so began a life devoted to learning more about Jesus and teaching others about Him. Many eternal friendships began in the weekly Bible studies they had in their home for youth and for adults. After George retired, they enjoyed spending half their days working cattle and oil wells on their land near Rockdale. Sue and George were very faithful in supporting their church, Temple Baptist Church in Mexia, as well as national and worldwide ministries that work to bring the Gospel to others.

Sue has joy unspeakable to be now reunited with these who have preceded her in death: her husband, George Riddle; grandson Chance Cox; her parents; her brother, Dan Drummond Jr.; and her sister, Shirley Lands.

Sue is survived by her children Rebecca and Harvey Cox, and Rachel and David Garrett; grandchildren Christopher Cox, Hayden Cox, Madeline and Brad Gee; and great-granddaughter Landry Gee.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Arrangements by Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home.
