This past week I got a text from an Eternal Friend and former parishioner and retired Hays County judge. She told me that a 39-year-old man we both know hung himself in prison last Saturday. We both knew him and we both know his mother.

Add-ons (potato salad, cake, “your choice” dessert) entry fee is $10 for cooks cooking meat; for those not cooking meats, add-ons are $15 for one and $25 for two. All proceeds go to assist veterans and their families in the local communities. Friday is for setup. Saturday starts at 10 a.m. Judging for the potato salad, cake and desserts starts at 2 p.m. Judging for the meat begins at 4 p.m. Barbecue plates will be sold for $15 each: two meats, beans, potato salad, dessert and tea served immediately afterward, probably about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, until 8 p.m.
The Mexia City Council and City Manager Eric Garretty certainly cannot be accused of taking their job of tending to the needs of Mexia lightly, as they addressed 34 different issues at the Tuesday night session, meeting for almost three and a half hours.
