New law intended to help protect dogs from abuses
Gov. Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 5 during the Legislature’s third special session of the year, making the unlawful restraint of a dog a crime in Texas, effective Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Council OKs pay policy, fireworks bid
City employees called in to work outside their normal shift will be paid “driveway to driveway,” according to a new policy the council approved. For instance, if a firefighter is on his day off and gets called in to work, he will be paid from the time he leaves his house until the time he returns home.
