City of Mexia to hold hearing, special meeting Tuesday morning

Mexia City Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday morning, Aug. 7, followed by a specially called meeting to discuss the budget.
The public hearing is set for 10 a.m., its purpose to receive citizens comments on a grant application the city is making to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for the Hughes City Park Sports Complex.
After the hearing adjourns, the specially called meeting is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m. mainly to hold a budget workshop. First, however, the new Dist. 2 Council member Erica Tweedle will be sworn in. Tweedle was appointed to the District 2 position at the council’s July 17 meeting.
In an agenda item related to the hearing, the council is expected to approve a resolution certifying that the city is eligible to receive the grant.
Also at the meeting, City Manager Eric Garretty plans to update the council on air conditioning repairs at the Civic Center.
In separate action, the Chamber of Commerce will request $50,000 of Hotel-Motel Tax funds for the upcoming ArtsFest on Saturday, Sept. 22.
The remainder of the meeting will be a budget workshop, which will cover the proposed budget for upcoming Fiscal Year 2018-19, a health insurance increase, the property tax rate, revenues and expenditures, and all city departments and funds, and is expected to take an extended amount of time.
