Mexia, three area teams head to football playoffs
Three area football teams and Mexia will trek into the postseason playoffs this coming week.
Mexia won the District 7-4A, Division II championship with an unblemished 4-0 record. The Blackcats will play Spring Hill, the fourth-place team in District 8-4A, Division II, at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Blackcat Field. Facing difficulty finding a neutral site for the game, the teams flipped for home field advantage and Mexia won.
Groesbeck nailed down the runner-up spot in District 8-3A, Division I. They will play Dallas Madison, the third-place team in District 7-3A, Division I. The game will be next Saturday at 6 p.m. at Waco ISD Stadium.
Coolidge earned the runner-up spot in District 12-1A, Division I, with a 74-14 victory over Aquilla on Friday. The Yellowjackets will play Blum, which won District 11-1A, Division I. The site and time will be determined.
Teague earned the fourth and final playoff slot from District 8-3A, Division I, with a victory over Fairfield on Friday. The Lions will take on defending state champion Grandview, which was the District 7-3A, Division I champion. The site and time of the game are yet to be determined.
