The Mexia girls soccer team opened its District 234A season on a successful note with a 1-0 victory over Waco Connally at Blackcat Field on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
It took the Mexia Ladycats half a game to get their offense untracked. But their defense was impenetrable throughout the game.
The atmosphere at the Mexia High School gym was electric Tuesday night, and the Mexia Blackcats turned up the juice and left Palestine Westwood in the dark in a battle of state-ranked teams.

The Mexia Ladycats played Franklin, the No. 8-ranked team in the state, to a draw in the first half of their District 20-3A tussle at Franklin on Friday, Jan. 19.
