One of the world’s oldest and most hallowed freshwater fishing records has likely been crushed by a monster alligator gar caught and released recently at Sam Rayburn Reservoir by Art Weston of Union, Kentucky.
The Mexia Community Sports Pee Wee Football teams opened their season with victories in all three games against Fairfield at Blackcat Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 9.
The Coolidge football team used its option offense to run roughshod over Avalon, 70-23, in a non-district game at Avalon on Thursday, Sept. 7.
The Wortham volleyball team was swept by undefeated and topranked Jewett Leon in a non-district match at Leon on Friday, Sept. 8.
Playing against two of the best Class 4A teams in the state and the two-time defending Class 3A, Division I state champion in its first three games, the Mexia football team has absorbed some blows.
