Wilma Davis-Smith

Wilma Davis-Smith was born Nov. 21, 1950, to Wilmer (Bill) Davis and Irene Lindley Davis in Mexia, where she attended the public schools. Wilma also attended MCC in Waco, Fairfield Barber College and also took some classes at Dallas Theological College. Wilma worked as an X-ray Tech at the hospitals in Mexia, Teague, Fairfield, Buffalo, Corsicana and in Groesbeck, where she retired. Wilma was also the owner and operator of her own beauty salon “Wilma’s World of Curls” where she served residents of Mexia and the surrounding areas.

Wilma accepted Christ and became a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of several auxiliaries. Wilma also was a member of Corner Stone Full Gospel Church in Fairfield for several years until her health began to decline and she was forced to move her membership back to Mexia where she became a member of Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Grant.

Wilma went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilmer “Bill” and Irene Lindley-Davis; brothers, Wilmer Jr. “Sap” Davis, Ed “Eddie” Davis, Robert Davis, Darrell “Bubba” Davis and Carl Davis; sisters, Ella “Pie” Busby, Debra Davis, May “MayMay” Davis and Rhetta Davis; also Lordine Brewer, Reginald Brewer, Betty Jean Tennyson, Horatius Smith and Quantico Smith.

Wilma leaves to cherish her memory her husband, James Smith; daughters, Rhonda Davis, Shannon Harris-Bouye, Dana Harris- Davis (Raymond) and Christie Harris; step-sons, James Lee Smith II, Juan Smith, Ronald Brewer; grandchildren, Jeremy Davis, Candice Ford, Darrell Waites III, RaeShawndria Waites, Jeremiah Green-Davis, Jonathan McDowell, Jaxon Roberson, Raymond Mc Kinney, Jaclyn McKinney, James Lee Smith III, Jaquan Smith and Monet Smith; great-grandchildren, Kelani Waites, Sophia Carmona, Kelsie Waites, Lilly Carmona, Jaqualan McKinney and Jalynn McKinney; and brothers, Larry Davis (Michelle) and Ronnie Davis (Lisa).

Wilma also leaves to cherish her memory, aunts and uncles, Charlene Maddox, Lyn Houston, Mamie Brown, Helen Lindley, Ora Brown, Judy Lindley, Wilmer Lindley, Roy Lindley, Neothies Lindley, Sr. and DL Lindley and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Service to be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at First Baptist Church. Service and arrangements entrusted to Pearly Gates Funeral Home of Mexia.
