T homas L ucas
Thomas Lucas, resident of Corsicana, passed away Saturday, Feb.16, 2019, at Medical City of Dallas at the age of 75. He was born Nov. 18, 1943, to Louis Lucas and Lillian Ward Lucas in Mexia.
Thomas was a standout athlete at Wortham High School. He lettered in all sports, excelling in football and track. Thomas was a very dependable and hardworking employee at Chattanooga Glass Company for 20 years and Pactiv for over 13 years where he made many lifelong friendships with Bobby Sparks and James Carrigan to name a few. He was a member of Second Avenue Baptist Church in Corsicana. He loved to catfish with friends and family, camp at Fairfield Lake, deer and elk hunt and spend time outdoors. He also enjoyed playing card games and dominos with close friends. His favorite singer was George Jones and he enjoyed singing many of Jones’s songs. Thomas was a big fan of the Texas Longhorns and the movie Lonesome Dove. What he was most proud of was his daughters and grandkids.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Lucas, Bill Lucas, Kenneth Lucas, Whitey Lucas and Roger Lucas; sisters, Elsie Trickett, Gladys Garner and Terry McGowan; nephews, Mark Lucas and Jeffrey Lucas; nieces, Theresa Jo Mc-Gowan and Cynthia Garner.
He is survived by his daughters, Amy Davidson of Frisco and Natalie and husband Wes Dowd of Corsicana; grandchildren, Makenna Davidson of San Antonio and Raeleigh Davidson of Frisco; and grandson and name sake Luke Wallace of Corsicana; step-granddaughters, Mallory and Emory Dowd; sister, Margaret Swor of Huntsville; and brother, Danny Lucas of Corsicana. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Elizabeth Lucas of Corsicana; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
Visitation with the family will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Griffin –Roughton Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Griffin – Roughton Funeral Home with Brother Ed Ridge, a high school friend, officiating. Burial will follow at Wortham Cemetery with his nephews Tony Whalin, Bob Trickett, Mike Trickett, Randy Garner, Richard McGowan and family friend Kyle Carrigan serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be former co-workers at Chattanooga Glass Company.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Heritage Oaks West, Twilight Nursing Home, Navarro Regional Hospital Emergency Department and the staff at Medical City Dallas. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Second Avenue Missionary Baptist Church Youth Fund.
