Peggy Elizabeth Tyner

Peggy Elizabeth Tyner, 86, passed away April 27, 2024, in Mexia.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Dennis Knearem, Doug Jones, James Bagatti, Ben Tyner, Marty Byers, Walter Van DeWeghe and Keith Price will serve as pallbearers.

Peggy was born Jan. 15, 1938, in Daingerfield to Arther Templeton and Myrtice McDuffie Reid. She married Cloyce Tyner in Durant, Okla., on Sept. 3, 1955. They were blessed with a daughter, Monica Gail, and had more than 60 wonderful years together.

They moved to Mexia in 1972 after Cloyce accepted a job as Mexia’s city secretary/ tax accessor collector. Peggy worked for many years at both Bi-Stone Savings and Loan and the Mexia Chamber of Commerce.

Although Peggy enjoyed her jobs, her priority was her family. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She had an outgoing personality and made many friends throughout the years. Peggy enjoyed playing golf and was an active member of the Mexia Country Club for many years. She also loved her rose bushes, gardening, and spending time with her precious little dog, Chrissy.

Peggy was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Mexia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arther and Myrtice Reid; and husband, Cloyce; brother, Billy Hill; and sister, Marie Yarbrough.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Monica Gail Tyner Nichols; her little companion, Chrissy; brother-in-law, Derrell Tyner of Ennis; special friends, Marty Byers, Dennis Knearem, and Andy Nichols; and several nieces and nephews.
