MATTIE LEE BROWN

Mattie Lee Goad Brown, of Waco, went to the arms of her Savior on Aug. 4, 2020. She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, brothers, sisters, her son and her husband. The Goad family circle is now unbroken.

Mattie was born May 19, 1938, in Jewett, to Ulysses and Callie Goad. She lived most of her life in Mexia, and attended the First Assembly of God Church. After moving to Waco, she was a member of Harvest Time Revival Center, and was also active at the Freedom of God Ministries in Waco. Church and her love of God were most important to her, and she professed her love of God in action and word to everyone she knew.

Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Wayne “Pete” Brown; her beloved son Wayland Cates; her parents, Ulysses and Callie Goad; brothers Curtis, Preston, UV and Marvin Ray (Happy Jack) Goad; sisters Lucille Wilson, Dorothy Gooden, Etta Miller and Bertie Ferguson.

She is survived by her son Curtis Cates and wife Trudi, of San Antonio; a daughter, Donna Cunningham and husband Joseph, of Waco; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, whom she loved with all of her heart.

Graveside services were to be held at Point Enterprise Cemetery in Mexia, on Friday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m., with Brother Larry Cathey officiating.

Due to the current social distancing guidelines, there will be no formal visitation, but friends and family are invited to visit her at Corley-Porter Funeral Home, 208 N. Canton Street in Mexia, on Thursday, Aug. 6, from 2 to 5 p.m. and on Friday, Aug. 7, from 8 a.m. to noon, prior to the graveside service at Point Enterprise Cemetery at 2 p.m. Funeral attendees are requested to wear face masks for everyone’s safety.

An online guest book is available at www.corleyporterfuneralhome.com and by selecting the Mattie Brown obituary.

Corley-Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
