Mary Ann Colvin
Mary Ann Colvin, 80, passed away peacefully on Feb. 9, 2025, inWaco. Born on Dec. 16, 1944, in Kilgore, MaryAnn dedicated her life to education and family, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she knew.
After college, Mary Ann joined the Americorps VISTA program and relocated to West Virginia, where she spent most of her adult life. She spent her career teaching Special Education, and she was a devoted and fierce advocate for her many students over the years. She taught at Ritchie County High School in Harrisville, W. Va., and then ultimately retired, after teaching for many years at St. Marys Elementary School in St. Marys, W. Va. Her passion for helping children with special needs was evident in her commitment and the lasting impact she made on her students.
Mary Ann’s life was a testament of love and devotion to her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Larry Colvin, of Mexia; daughters Miranda and husband, Jim, Pierson of Mattapoisett, Mass., Jamie Williamson and husband, Bill, Christman of Murphy, Gina Campbell of Jacksonville, Fla., Rosemary and husband, Michael “Church,” Cerchiara of Mexia, and Myriah and husband, Kyle, Weatherholt of Ashland, Ky.; siblings Joe Canterbury, Sr. of Tyler, Janet Canterbury of Miami, Mike Canterbury of Dallas, Regina Nadicksbernd of Ft. Walton, Fla., and Louis “Bud” Canterbury of Mexia. Mary Ann was a cherished grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren who will miss her deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents Joe, Sr. and Rosemary Canterbury, and her brothers Tom and Tim Canterbury.
A woman of deep faith, Mary Ann was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mexia.
Mary Ann’s hobbies included traveling, crocheting, reading, and shopping, especially for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known affectionately as the “Road Warrior” by her family, she traveled extensively, always eager to visit and nurture relationships with her large family and close friends.
Amemorialserviceandcelebration of life will be planned at a future date. MaryAnn’s life was a testament to the power of education, the strength of faith, and the enduring bonds of family and friends. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew her.
