Marie (Big Mama) Jones
Marie (Big Mama) Jones, 85, of Mexia, passed away on Sept. 5, 2018, at the Skilled Care of Mexia.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 11 a.m. at Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Chaplain Jon Honea and the Rev. Darryl Hatley officiating. Interment will follow at Point Enterprise Cemetery. Family visitation will be Friday evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons and grandsons-in-law Michael David Lamb, Ben Jones, Michael Jones, Chris Jones, Kip Stuver and Nathan Edwards. Honorary pallbearers are her great-grandsons Blake Martinez, Ryan Martinez, John Clayton Stuver and Mason Edwards.
Marie was born Dec. 22, 1932, in Wortham to Willie Alvis and Ida Lee Rowell Fore. She was retired from the Mexia State School, where she was the supervisor of Dietary Services. She was a Christian woman who loved her family and worked very hard from a young age to support them.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben Jones; son, Larry Paul Jones; great-grandson, Benjamin Ray “Trip” Jones III; and her brother, Windell Fore.
She is survived by her daughter, Anne Patterson; sons, Ray Jones and wife, Connie and Doug Jones and wife, Lori; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters; eight nieces and two nephews and her sister, Nelda Allen.
The family would like to thank those at Virginia’s Hospice, Judy Angel, Laurie Lane, Ashely McDaniel and Pam McCann; as well as her caretakers, Shirley Clay and Claudia Smith, for taking such good care of her the last several weeks.
